A note on the architecture
Unlike most tablets, this one is x86_64 with UEFI. This means it can boot regular operating systems if you connect a flash drive and a keyboard using USB-OTG.
Note, however, that while the CPU is 64-bit, the BIOS is not. That means that you can't use a 64-bit bootloader on the device. I have seen people flash 64-bit BIOS images to fix this, but I haven't done that personally, so I didn't include it here.
Windows, Android and most Linux distributions cannot boot a 64-bit OS from a 32-bit bootloader. But NixOS, which I use on the tablet, can, so I use the 64-bit version. (I also expect Arch Linux to have this capability, but I haven't checked)
A note on the touchscreen
Replacement parts for the Chuwi Hi8 are no longer sold. Hovewer, replacement touchscreens for the Chuwi Hi 8 Pro are still made, and they are compatible with this device, but they have several issues, outlined in "Replacing the touchscreen"
